Notified bodies are created as part of CE marking legislation. They are appointed by EU member states as competent organisations to provide definitive opinions and certifications relating to CE marking Directives. The exact role of Notified Bodies and the extent of Notified Body involvement required is different for different Directives.
CCQS is a Notified Body for Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, Low Voltage Directive 2006/95/EC and Electromagnetic compatibility directive 2004/108/EC.
All Notified Bodies for all CE marking Directives are listed on the NANDO website maintained by the EU. The website lists the current appointed scopes of all Notified Bodies. CCQS is Notified Body number 1105 and its NANDO entry is here.
If you receive a certificate which claims to be from a Notified Body that you are not sure about, it is always worth checking their credentials on the NANDO site.
Some Directives require a Notified Body number to be quoted beside the CE marking on the equipment, but that is not the case for Machinery, Low Voltage or EMC Directives.
