Notified Bodies
Notified Bodies are appointed by EU governments. They provide an accredited service to certify the compliance of Equipment with EU Directives.

For Machinery Directive certain more dangerous categories of equipment (listed in Annex IV of the Directive) require mandatory third party certification by a Notified Body.
Under EMC and LVD directives, Notified Bodies can provide an accredited certification that equipment meets the requirements of the Directives.
Notified Body status covers specified scopes (for specific types of equipment) within specified Directives.
